What is dragon-boat racing?

As a sport, it’s a full-body workout that combines endurance and strength. Teams, typically 16-20 paddlers, paddle in pairs, guided by a sweep who steers the boat. When we compete, we have a drummer on board!

How fit do I need to be?

You'll need a basic level of fitness to handle the demands of the sport, including stamina and core strength.

Why guys; and are you only looking for guys?

We’re specifically looking for some fellas to join our crew (mainly so we can compete in the men’s section of regattas we have throughout the year), but all welcome. Great also for couples, siblings, friends who want to do something fun together.

What's our team like?

We’re a diverse crew – social, competitive, LGBTQI+ inclusive, and ready to win and have fun. We have paddlers in their 20s to 60s.

We pride ourselves on our club community. We enjoy a coffee together after our Saturday session and have monthly social events like hiking and putt-putt.

What does it cost to join?

To join is super cheap. It's just R80 a month besides a small annual fee. Note that the trial is free and consists of three free sessions.

When do we paddle?

We paddle Tues/Thurs 6-7pm and 8-9am on Saturdays at the V&A Waterfront. RSVP-ing is necessary (we need 8 min paddlers for a session) and sessions are always weather-dependent.

Directions: Park inside or around Battery Park (free on Sat). Then walk along the canal towards the Marina office. We meet up outside the security office.
