Purpose of the RoleTo provide operational support and perform basic maintenance on key utility systems – including compressed air systems, industrial steam boilers, chilled water systems, and general utility services – to ensure safe, continuous, and efficient functioning of the plant’s infrastructure in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and other applicable South African regulations. Key Responsibilities:Daily Operation & Monitoring:Operate and monitor compressor units, steam boilers, water pumps, air dryers, HVAC systems, and cooling towers.Conduct hourly and daily checks, and record critical parameters (e.g. pressure, temperature, oil levels).Log all operational data in checklists and plant logbooks.Preventative Maintenance Support:Carry out routine tasks such as filter changes, draining condensate, belt inspections, oil top-up, etc.Assist qualified artisans during scheduled maintenance and shutdowns.Fault Reporting & Support:Identify and report anomalies (e.g. abnormal sounds, pressure drops, overheating) immediately.Work closely with the Maintenance and Electrical teams during breakdowns or emergency repairs.Compliance & Safety:Ensure all work is performed in line with OHSA, SANS standards, and SABS approved safety protocols.Support adherence to Department of Labour requirements for pressure vessel and boiler operation.Water Quality and Fuel Management:Assist with checking boiler feedwater quality (pH, TDS, hardness).Monitor diesel/oil/fuel levels for generator or boiler operations.General Housekeeping:Keep utility areas clean and free from obstructions.Maintain clear access to emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and panels.
