Requirements:
Grade 12 Certificate.National Diploma in Safety Management (preferable) or equivalent and / or at least SAMTRAC.OHS Act – knowledge of requirements.Knowledge of safety systems (DIFR, IOD reporting etc.)A minimum of 3 years’ work related experience in a manufacturing environment.The successful candidate will be computer literate especially in MS Office Suite (specifically MS Word and MS Excel), and have business presentation and reporting skills.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that the provisions of the OSH Act and its regulations, pertinent to the site and its processes are complied with in the workplace.Ensure that the provisions of environmental legislation, pertinent to the site and its activities and processes are complied with.Provide a comprehensive HSE consulting service and advice to the manufacturing plants in consultation with the SHEEQ Manager.Investigate and report on incidents in the workplace and devise and implement strategies for preventative measures.Conduct regular HIRA as well as environmental aspects and impact assessments and update SWP’s and SOP’s.Assist with annual HSE induction on all employees and do incidental HSE Induction throughout the year as well as training of employees.Conduct monthly housekeeping assessments.Assist with scheduled internal audits on activities and processes of the site and report on findings of such audits.Devise action plans to deal with non- compliances.Assist in preparing plants for external HSE audits.Attend daily production meetings.Attend weekly meetings with the SHEEQ Manager.Attend monthly HSE meetings.Supervise the HSE representatives.Any other HSE related matters as instructed by the Site Compliance manager or manufacturing Director of the site.Execute daily audits (Safety, ergonomics, environmental).Document Control.Investigation of IOD’s, accidents and injuries.Conduct job hazard analysis.Assist with daily administration functions.Perform any other duties that are commensurate with the position.

Key Responsibilities:Conduct regular site audits to ensure compliance with HSE regulations.Collaborate with managers to optimize working practices through comprehensive risk assessments and effective HSE management systems.Facilitate in-house HSE training for all relevant personnel.Foster a positive health and safety culture while minimizing environmental impact.Assist in performing risk assessments and developing method statements, advising on measures to mitigate risks.Support Line Managers in identifying training needs to maintain HSE compliance.Ensure thorough recording and investigation of incidents, accidents, complaints, and environmental issues, with recommendations to prevent recurrence.Conduct investigations to identify the causes of HSE breaches on site.Work with the Executive Committee, Line Managers, and Supervisors to uphold HSE policies and procedures.Liaise with industry bodies and organizations to promote best practices in occupational health, safety, and welfare.Provide guidance and support to Line and Project Managers regarding workplace assessments and modifications for staff returning from illness or injury, ensuring adherence to local legislation.Assist the team in daily operations concerning HSE compliance.Lead and support HSE initiatives, campaigns, and awareness projects.Prepare and submit monthly HSE reports.Perform additional duties as required.Requirements:Registration with SACPCMP.Valid South African Drivers License (Code 08).Medically fit.Willingness to travel frequently for site audits and HSE training.Minimum of two years experience as a safety officer.Experience in auditing and incident investigation with strong problem-solving skills.Skills:Excellent report writing and presentation abilities.Strong oral and written communication skills.Proficient in MS Office at an intermediate level.In-depth knowledge of local HSE legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Construction Regulations.A valid SAMTRAC and/or NEBOSH certificate is advantageous.
