Re: PETTING ZOO We offer a fun & interactive educational programme of bringing the zoo to the classroom or children’s parties. Our standard rate for the Mobile Petting Zoo is R 2 750 for 2 hours, then R 1 375 per hour thereafter. Transport, depending on distance from our small holding at Lat Wai Family Fun Farm can range from R 100 to R 1 200 (inside the Cape Peninsula area) A pony can be provided for 2 hours at R 2 000 If you hire a 2nd pony the extra fee will only be R 1 000 We also have a permanent Petting Zoo set up at Lat Wai. We bring various animals, depending on each function & the average age groups of the kids, as it is an interactive learning experience about farm animals. All our animals have been hand reared & are extremely tame - most even come up to the kids out of their own. All our chickens (& we have a large variety) sit on the shoulders of the kids, or even their heads, are totally chilled & don't jump off. They even sit for long periods on the backs of our Dorper sheep as they seem to enjoy the warm fur & going for a ride. We have Mandarin ducks from China, Golden Pheasants & Lady Amhersts (rare showbirds) - The Golden Pheasants who people have known as wild birds, have actually been very well hand reared & have no problem with sitting on the kids shoulders & heads as well. We are still training our Lady Amherts (almost extinct in the UK - they come from Burma. Polish Bantams, Silkies, Peking chickens, Columbian Brahmas Geese, Turkies, Grouse, Peacocks, Japanese Quails, Laughing doves Miniature Pygmy Dwarf goats, the smallest goats in the world. Dorper sheep. A large range of Rabbits & Guinea pigs. THE ANIMALS WE BRING: A sheep or lamb & 2 goats. If a lamb is available, we will bring one of them with or Kid goats if available. Enough Rabbits & Guinea pigs dependent on how many kids are there going to be. A range of Chickens Pheasants Mandarin Ducks Japanese Quail Laughing doves 1 or 2 Geese. 1 Turkey (really tame - comes up to the kids to be stroked.) The Peacocks only for family fun days or larger events. We set up a 6m x 6m fence - can be shaped as the area requires, as it is interlocking & flexible. Provide 15 chairs for seating as 15 kids can go in at a time for say 10 - 15 minutes each. Hay bales cost extra to bring because of the high cost of hay. Feed & veggies - kids are given veggies to feed the animals. None of them bite. Sheep & goats only have bottom teeth. Kids are also given brushes to maintain & groom the sheep & goats.
