EMCO MAXIMAT, THE MYFORD BIG BROTHER

The Emco Maximat is a flat bed lathe, similar to the well-known Myford Super 7. However, it is substantially bigger in all respects, offers a taper bearing headstock and this model also has the optional mill column, the column alone coming in at nearly 25 kg! This column utilises the lathe headstock/motor and is easily and quickly swopped over. Milling is effected on the large cross slide carriage, the tool post having been removed.

Six speeds, covering 100 to 1 550 rpm, are selected by changing belt positions. Two carriage feed speeds are available. Thread cutting is effected via the various change gears, gear studs and quadrant.

The lathe dials are calibrated in 0,001” increments and are zero resettable.

Power is via a 3 phase 0,5 PS motor. Protection is via the direct on line overload protected starter. All 6 winding leads are accessible, making a 230V single phase variable frequency drive an easy option.

The cabinet is of exception rigidity and has ample storage on 2 shelves and a door.

A 3 jaw, 110 mm diameter self centring chuck is fitted, including outside jaws and key. The final machining of the backplate must be done once the lathe has been installed and bolted down.

Various accessories, many brand new, are included, e. g. cutting tools, German drill bits, dial guage, thread pitch guage and large face plate and a drive dog and dead centre. Complete and incomplete chuck backplates are supplied too. A grease gun is included.

The 45 page manual (not shown) is exceptionally well detailed, offering installation, setting up tips, uses, accessory details etc.

Swing over the bed is 254 mm, centre distance 609 mm with 2 and 3MT in the tailstock and headstock respectively. The tailstock can be set over up to 14 mm for taper cutting. The tool post can handle cutters up to 19 mm. Please contact the seller for more detailed specifications.

The lathe was restored to as close as new as practicable. It runs exceptionally quietly and vibration free. Because of its weight, size and 3 phase motor, hobby as well as light industrial use would be possible.
