So, I placed my XJ6 up for sale recently for R 85 000 negotiable – a couple of interested buyers came to view and I discovered I had some rust holes in the floor pan that needed sorting out. I am in the process of welding new panels in but I am finding the work time-consuming and labour intensive and although I plan to continue this restoration work, whilst I do so, I thought I would offer the car plus the spare engine and gearbox up for sale in a “As Is” condition; for the new buyer to undertake the required work. As such, the price is now R 50 000 (but non-negotiable!) As and when I complete the work up to a “Pass CoR standard”, should I have had no interest in a sale on the above conditions – then I will revise the price back to the original R 85 000. She’s in impressive condition for a 50 year old vehicle! – this fine old lady was bought by me in 2021 and was taken through its COR then, with all the necessary work undertaken by Steve Marsh Classic Autos (invoices available, of course!) I also have copies of other work undertaken on the vehicle by the previous owner, going back to the early 2000s. Since my purchase, if she’s done an additional 5 000 km, that would be a lot! The speedo currently reads 56 811 but I cannot guarantee its validity. The car starts first time, every time and sports virtually brand new tyres – I’ve taken her on a number of Jaguar Club outings; 2 x Distinguished Gentleman’s Drives and a number of Wedding and Matric Dance bookings and have only had the most favourable of comments from fellow participants and/or my paying clients. Being Gold in colour – she certainly does turn heads! … The infrequency of use due to advancing age (mine, not the cars) and certain health issues, have led me to the reluctant decision to sell and let someone else get more use out of her. It’s not documented whether the engine is the original but the car comes with a spare 4.2 litre engine and auto gearbox and a couple of boxes of spare parts. Everything works on the car including the aircon and electric windows – only thing that I’ve not been able to fix is the dashboard clock!
