Following on from the local launch of its bigger Golf sibling earlier this year, Volkswagen will launch its refreshed Polo model in South Africa next year. The model has been around since 1996, selling more than 18 million globally and is South Africa’s second best-selling passenger car after the Polo Vivo.
One of the changes with the new model is the naming convention. Gone is the familiar Trendline, Comfortline and Highline trim levels and in its place is Polo, Polo Life and R-Line - not forgetting the GTI derivative. As one would expect from a facelifted model, the exterior features a number of changes like a revised bumper, tailgate as well as the headlights and tail light clusters which come standard with LED technology. Just like the Golf, the Polo features an LED crossbar on the front grille.
Ascot Grey, Smoky Grey Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, Vibrant Violet Metallic, Pure White, Reflex Silver Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect are the body colour options on offer.

ENGINES AVAILABLE AT LAUNCH
1.0 TSI 70kW engine – It serves as the entry-level option available in the Polo and Polo Life specifications. The three-cylinder engine produces 70kW and 175Nm of torque, and is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission.
1.0 TSI 85kW DSG engine – Customers interested in the Polo Life and Polo R-Line specifications get a slightly stronger three-cylinder engine, which is coupled with a 7-speed DSG transmission. Power stands at 85kW and 200Nm of torque.
2.0 TSI turbo-charged engine – This list just wouldn’t be complete without those famous three letters. The turbocharged unit delivers a power output of 147kW and 320Nm of torque, while completing the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds.
