I moved to stay in Cape town and went in to do voluntary work as a care giver at SANCIT RESTHAVEN old age home in Strand and was so privileged to work with diverse frail patients with various chronic illnesses. who needed special delicate care.
They included very frail bedridden patients who needed special care each day, patients with various stages of vascular dementia and Alzheimer, patients with Parkinson illness, patients with lupus and those in various stages of cancer. I am a committed individual, with lots of energy when it comes to giving care duties to patients and each day I performed various duties which included:Bed changing and conducting full wash on patients Helping with inconveniences, bedpan and assisting able patients to the bathroom for nice hot shower etcAssisting Sister in charge with checking and recording vitals like blood pressure, sugar and pulse. I then moved to caring for a private patient in Gordon's Bay where I have been working part-time 2 days a week.I provide care for an 83-year-old lady who is frail and also needs assistance with cleaning and changing her catheter. I perform various duties which includes, Changing incontinence pads, bathing my patient and all grooming, cleaning duties, making meals and feeding, help with checking her vitals and any meds, help with all mobility issues and providing the much-needed companionship. I can work certainly well under pressure without compromising the well-being of my patients, am very patient and can make informed decisions. I love my position in helping less privileged people and very skilled in delivering care in a professional manner. I am skilled to perform any of the following duties:Catheter care management. eg cleaning and changingPeg or tube feeding on bedridden patientsColostomy management
