HIGHLY SKILLED CARER WITH OVER 10 YRS POST TRAINING EXP, SEEK OLD AGE HOME OR PRIVATE PATIENT POST

Good day

My name is Thandiswa, a passionate and organized carer giver who was trained at Friends in Need College in Mitchells Plain in 2009 and went on to graduate with a certificate in home-based care including advanced First Aid and CPR.

I was then engaged for long term voluntary work for my practical hours at ERIC MILLS CHESHIRE in Milnerton. I had the opportunity to work with resident patients who had different ailments that included chronic illness, eg cancer patients, frail and bedridden patients, patients with Parkinson illness. quadriplegic patients, dementia patients, post operated patients and physically disabled patients who all needed love and caring.

I worked fulltime and my daily shifts included preforming many duties which included the following:

Bedhanging every morning

Use of bedpan, changing continence pads and assisting other patients to the bathrooms

Performing full wash on patients including grooming, skin care and mouth care as well

Feeding those patients who needed aid

Checking vitals like blood sugar, blood pressure, checking pulse and temperature

Assisting nurses to give medications on time including monitoring.

Helping with exercises and keeping general companionship and moral withing the residence

I was then employed till June 2023, working for a private patient in Phillipi. I was looking after a frail 73-year-old female patient who had stroked her right side and was bedridden most of the time. I conducted various duties which included the following"

Cleaning her room and opening curtains every morning

Bed changing and performing full wash, including skin and mouth care

Changing incontinence pads

Making her health meals and feeding her well

Checking her vitals and recording

Changing sides the patient always to manage sores and dressing them

Moving the patient from bed to wheelchair including taking her to doctors' appointments when a need arose for checkup.
