Good day

My name is Likhona, a matured and passionate care giver who was trained at OASIS COLLEGE in Strand and have certificates in Home Based Care, palliative care, dementia care, quadriplegic care including advanced First Aid and CPR.

I was then attached as a carer at BUSAMED private hospital in Strand. I had the opportunity to work with various private patients who included:

Patients with dementia/Alzheimer's

Post operated patients

Patients with Parkinson illness

Patients on various cancer stages

Bedridden frail patients

Patients with severe hypertension and diabetics

Physically disadvantaged patients who required special care etc

I worked shifts and performed various duties in caring for patients with chronic illnesses. My daily duties included the following:

Sanitizing and cleaning all patient areas

Bed changing and performing full wash on patients including grooming, skin care, mouth care and make up

Assisting able patients to the bathrooms for shower etc

Checking vitals on patients eg blood pressure, sugar, temperature and pulse

Assisting nurses to give medication and monitoring patients

Pressure care management and dressing wounds or sores

Moving patients from bed to wheelchair

maintaining good moral within the residence

I have been working parttime for Needy Hearts Carers SA as a caregiver since March 2024. I took care of patients around Helderberg and other Cape town areas- conducting various duties like, performing full wash on patients, skin and mouth care, all grooming needs, continence care and assisting others to the bathroom, checking and recording all vitals like blood sugar, temperature, blood pressure and pulse. making light meals and feeding patients, cleaning room and assisting with mobility issues and meeting doctors' appointments.
