The minimum age to obtain a SAMSA skipper license in South Africa is 16, but there's no age limit for the theory course. We recommend that aspiring boaters under 16 complete the online theory course at skippercourse and practice the theory while building experience to ace the SAMSA exam when they hit 16. Beware: once kids and spouses know the rules, they might become backseat skippers – a fun challenge awaits!
